A practical wallet setup journal · 6 min read

A calmer start
for your self-custody journey.

A clear, independent walkthrough for preparing a Trezor hardware wallet—with the official resources, security checks, and small details worth getting right from day one.

KKeystone Field Notes/Updated for first-time setup

Trezor.io/start is the official place to begin setting up a Trezor hardware wallet. Use it to find the current setup instructions for your device, install the recommended software, and move through the process at your own pace. This page is an independent, plain-language companion—not an official Trezor website—and points you back to Trezor’s own resources whenever a device-specific instruction matters.

Before you begin, set aside a few quiet minutes. Find a trusted computer, a stable internet connection, and the cable supplied for your device. Keep your wallet and recovery information private throughout setup. A deliberate start is more useful than rushing through every prompt.

01 — GET READY

Start with the source, not a search result

Type trezor.io/start directly into your browser, checking the spelling and secure connection before continuing. Follow the instructions shown for your particular model. Official setup steps can change as software is updated, so treat the manufacturer’s current directions as authoritative over an old tutorial, bookmarked download, or advice in a comment thread.

Download Trezor Suite only through an official Trezor page. Connect the device when instructed and read each prompt on both the computer and the hardware wallet. If anything unexpected appears—such as an unfamiliar download, a request to reveal private recovery words online, or a mismatch between screens—pause. Verify the step through Trezor Support before proceeding.

02 — PROTECT YOUR BACKUP

Your recovery backup is yours alone

During setup, the device may guide you through creating a recovery backup. This backup can restore access if your wallet is lost or damaged, which makes it highly sensitive. Write it down exactly as directed and keep it somewhere private and physically secure. Never photograph it, save it in a notes app, email it, or enter it into a website or computer form.

No legitimate support agent needs your recovery words. Anyone who obtains them may be able to access your assets. If a person, message, or pop-up asks you to share the backup, stop and use the official Trezor Learn articles to check the security guidance. Do not let urgency or a promise of help override this rule.

03 — BEFORE YOU FINISH

Make the final checks count

Once setup is complete, confirm that you understand where your recovery backup is stored and how to access official help. Keep device software current using the official application, protect the computer you use, and review transaction details on the device before approving them. Consider a small, low-risk test transfer only after you have independently verified the address and understand any network fees.

Be careful with unsolicited messages that imitate support teams or announce urgent account problems. Do not follow unexpected links to “fix” a wallet, and do not install a remote-access tool at a stranger’s request. When in doubt, close the message and navigate to the official site yourself.

There is no need to memorize every feature on day one. A secure setup is a foundation: use trusted links, guard your recovery backup, and pause whenever a screen or request feels unfamiliar. For the latest model-specific steps, return to the official start page.
